Mayor Brandon M. Scott Deploys Snow Team This Evening to Treat Critical Areas Across Baltimore Ahead of Potential Snow Fall

Friday Feb 5th, 2021

Mayor Brandon M. Scott along with Baltimore City Department of Transportation Director Steve Sharkey, announced that the Baltimore City Snow Team began snow deployment operations this evening, Friday, February 5, 2021. At 4:00 p.m., the snow team began the pretreatment of the city gateways in preparation for another winter weather event. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for continued inclement weather that is expected to affect the Baltimore region this weekend.

The Baltimore City Snow Team will be closely monitoring weather and roadway conditions over the next 48 hours with a full deployment beginning at midnight on Sunday, February 7, 2021 to plow and and apply salt to streets as needed. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and be prepared for possible inclement weather on Sunday morning, as mixed precipitation may cause hazardous driving conditions.  Roadways may become slick, especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses, and along infrequently traveled roadways.

Motorists who must travel are strongly advised to allow additional commute time, drive at reduced speeds and increase stopping distance for everyone’s safety.  Drivers are also reminded not to pass working snowplows and to allow plenty of following distance so that plow drivers have plenty of room to maneuver.  Additionally, the Snow Team would like to encourage residents and commercial property owners to apply abrasives such as rock salt, de-icer, or non-clumping kitty litter to the sidewalks around their properties to reduce the possibility of icing and to prevent slips and falls.
